This group of paintings is an expression of joy and love through experimentations in color, composition, form, and line. In order, the paintings move from Mom-Mountain-Tree. They are a narrative of grief and connection between myself and my late mother, who passed when I was six. Line, color, and mark all combine to make the paintings connect together, but they are all meant to be images of their own. The color pink, which is a common element in a lot of my paintings, shines through the waves of the other colors in the compositions, and creates this sense of unity between the three works. It’s also a sort of inside joke which I shared with my mother when I was a child. There is a pink line which travels alongside the mountain my mom is standing on, up and around her figure, onto the mountains in the middle, down to connect to the tree, and then moves through the center of the tree to meet me.  The paintings fit together to tell a story of myself and my mother, the gestures and features which we share in common, and the connection between the two of us and the Earth which extends beyond the confines of this mortal coil.
